Juama is one of my favorite boxers in the sport of boxing. But just because I like him doesn't mean I will let him off the hook. Read some of the latest news on the build up of Lopez vs Caballero.
**Juanma is Not Happy With Facing Rogers Mtagwa in Oct.
By Mark Vester
Unbeaten WBO super bantamweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (26-0, 24KOs) is not exactly happy about facing Rogers Mtagwa (26-12, 18KOs), who he views as an unknown fighter. He says that he tried to find more suitable opponents but was unable to lock them in.
The fight was going to happen in September. Juanma says that won't happen and the fight will move over to a date in October at the Theater in Madison Square Garden in New York.
"This is what happens when the opponents that you want, don't want to fight at 122 pounds. Israel Vázquez went to 126-pounds, Rafael Márquez as well, and it seems that they are going to fight for a fourth time. There is nothing at 122," Juanma told Primera Hora.
As far as a unification bout with Celestino Caballero, Juanma says the fighter does not bring enough money to the table to make the fight worth the sanctioning fees involved.
"In the case of Celestino Caballero, he doesn't have to pay the percentage of my marketshare to each of the three organizations (IBF, WBO and WBO). It's better for me to remain fighting against opponents who are ranked by the WBO," Juanma said.
He plans to rest in July and head back to the gym at some point in August.
"I need to take the month of July off to rest and I will not return to the gym until August, so I will not be ready for September," Juanma told the paper.
Now me as the die hard boxing fan that I am. I don't buy that crap. He say's there is no one at 122 left for him to fight?
Caballero is the man at 122 with a win over Ponce De Leon who Juama captured his title from. Caballero is unified champion who holds 2 belts, while Juama only holds the WBO. Now if Juama wants to be P4P champion like he says he does. He needs to fight Caballero.
This is what Caballero had to say about Juama.

IBF/WBA super bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero was fuming when his management informed him of the recent comments that were made by Juan Manuel Lopez, the WBO champion. During an interview with Primera Hora of Puerto Rico, Lopez made it known that a fight with Cabellero was not appealing because of the heavy sanctioning fees that are involved between their three title belts.
Lopez is not exactly jumping for joy that his next opponent is Rogers Mtagwa, a veteran fighter with twelve defeats on his record. He would prefer to fight Israel Vazquez or Rafael Marquez, but they prefer to fight each other for a fourth time.
I’ve caught a few interviews where Lopez puts his foot in his mouth. He criticizes Vazquez and Marquez for overlooking him. He says the two Mexican stars are more concerned about a fourth meeting because it brings them the most money. At the same time, he says Caballero doesn’t bring him enough money to make a fight. Well, Vazquez and Marquez view Lopez in the same light.
Caballero tells BoxingScene.com that he can erase the concerns of Lopez. If Lopez agrees to a fight, Caballero promises to pay all of the sanctioning fees involved.
“Why take a chance where you can lose to a nobody? If he loses to me, then he loses to the best. He doesn’t have to worry; I will pay for all of the sanctioning fees. Don’t be a maricón in front of your own people. It’s shameful the way he is acting in front of his own people by fighting nobodies. Mtagwa does not bring any greatness to him. The best fight with the best,” Caballero said.
Now with Caballero leaving no excuses for Juama to make it put up or shut up. If you want to be the best you have to fight the best! And right now Caballero is the best at 122lbs. Until Juamma proves himself. And there is no doubt on my mind that Juama beats Caballero. But he has to do it. He needs to take the challenge and make a name for himself. Marquez and Vazquez do not want anything with Juama until he is a big enough draw . Right now he doesn't bring much to the table. The same way he feels about Caballero is how they feel about fighting him. Not enough money on the table for them. A 4th fight between Vasquez & Marquez will sell more then a fight with Juama!
Juan Manuel Lopez needs to answer the call of Caballero and accept the Challenge.
