Mayweather is not the Lineal Welter Weight Champion and never will be considered that. The Belt is Vacant and will be until he fights either Cotto or Mosley. After Cotto beats PacMan then Cotto should fight Mosley for his old belt and the Ring Lineal Belt.
If Mayweather wants to be considered Lineal Champion he needs to fight and beat Shane Mosley or Miguel Cotto.

Mayweather was the lineal Welterweight champ until he retired because he beat the man who beat the man who can be traced back to Sugar Ray and before... I was using Mayweather as an example...Pacquiao has fought one fight at 140 and has no intention of fighting any of the top guys in the division...is it fair to the Jr. welters and to the sport for Pacquiao to be considered the perpetual champion of that division or should the fighter with the better wins, Bradley, be named #1? If you support Mayweather not being the lineal champ, then you should be against Pacquiao too...and for the same reason...

I have to give manny credit for somehow deciding to fight Miguel Cotto. This is a very very very dangerous fight for him. If anyone ever doubted pacs ability to fight a top man in the division then those doubts should be erased now. We always talk about manny not fighting the best at 140 but we have to give him credit for fighting the beast of the welteweight division

i want to see pacquiao fight cotto in 147.. with so many betting to cotto to win which is also what i think.. still i want to take chances, i go to the underdog... which makes this match for me a little bit more exciting.. i just want to go against the flow..

140 Lineal Belt should be Timothy Bradley who actually fought and beat another champion in Kendal Holt. I didn't really think Ricky Hatton deserved that Title either.

Huh? bradley deserves to be called a lineal champ than hatton? bradley haven't yet proven himself by fighting hatton ( don't go for a hastey conclusion, its too early for that). Bradley beat Holt because their at the same level, Bradley have not yet fought a real elite fighter. Beating Holt makes you a lineal champ? who is Holt? Holt's k.o. percentage is as bad as Bradley.
I understand why most of you underestimated Hatton because he looks very bad against Manny but Hatton's resume is more impressive than Bradley, Hatton has beaten some good names and was only beatin by #1 p4p.

Damn, we finally agree about something, Bori! ;D That just means you've both lost the plot! jadef has got this one right. Bradley hasn't been near top class yet, whereas Pacquiao clearly has. Any 140 ranking that doesn't have Pacquiao at the top isn't worth the paper it's written on. But I hear you all with your compaints about catchweight fights. If Pacquiao and Roach want Cotto at 147 because they think he's tight at the weight and there for the taking, then so be it. But beating him at 145 or whatever would be a hollow victory at best.

Cotto gets hit a lot. if Pacquiao hurts him bad its going to be over. but same goes for Pacquiao, a body shot from Cotto will probably be too much for Pac-man to handle.

See, you're missing the point of what rankings are supposed to represent...They shouldn't be about who has the biggest name, who has the most fans or who used to accomplish the most in the past...They should be about who is currently accomplishing the most within that division. The fact of the matter is that Pacquiao didn't beat the Ricky Hatton of 2005 who had just beaten Kostya Tszyu, he beat the Ricky Hatton who had just one victory against a relevant Jr. Welter in nearly 4 years. Hatton may have been the lineal champ, but how much did that have to do with him not fighting the best 140 pounders anymore? There is a difference between being a lineal champ and being the most accomplished in the division... I think putting someone with one win in one fight at the very top of a deep division where top fighters are actually fighting one another is indefensible...Should Pacquiao still be at the top after he fights some bogus catchweight bout and Bradley defends against Nate Campbell? Will Pacquiao still be on top after that when Pacquiao fights another catchweight bout and Bradley defends against Ricardo Torres? Maybe I'm crazy, but I think a fighter at the top of a division should actually fight in that division... This ain't a popularity contest, brothas...the biggest name isn't always the best name... Bradley's wins over Junior Witter and Kendall Holt (as well as several other lesser wins) make him the top 140 lb. fighter in the world...Pacquiao has a better overall resume throughout his career than Bradley, but within the Jr. Welterweight division, Pacquiao is simply not as accomplished as Bradley and doesn't deserve the #1 spot...
