I'll be the first to kick this off, so at least we'll have a profile from one of the veterans.
I'm Charlie, I've been reading the boxingtimes since they wrote articles covering the big fights and posted boxing TV schedules. When that stopped, I was devastated, but then these boards started up, and I found something better: An entire community of hardcore boxing fans who transcended (for the most part) blind fanaticism of certain boxers and instead engaged in hearty debates on boxing, boxing, and more boxing. I haven't gotten my balls broken too hard for only being a rabid boxing fan since 2004.
Prior to being a full-time btbc reader, I was a Sergeant in the US ARMY CAVALRY.
I'm currently active in the Los Angeles Hardcore scene, and am a big music snob when it comes to Reggae and Ska, sorry, but I despise Sublime. I'm a Desmond Dekker and Laurel Aitken man myself.
Now lets hear some of those lurkers!

i just moved to manchester england and on our estate we have reggae festivals, its great. you'd love it here. i like reggae too, i like jimmy cliff. especially ''vietnam'' manchester is also great for boxing, we've got the men arena where breidis prescott floored amir khan in 54 seconds flat and where he redeemed himself ...a bit, not much... against barrera. and also the reebok arena. i dont know an awful lot about boxing but i plan to take over the site one day, haha just kidding. i dont know many people in my real life who like boxing so my online boxing chums are essential to me. ;D

HI all. I'm 34 and live in Australia. My interest in boxing originated from my father who was a fan. In the 80s, heavyweight bouts were shown free to air on our local TV stations and as a child I remember watching fights with my dad. Boxing then began to vanish from our tv screens. I took up karate as a 12 year old for 4 years but my real passion was boxing. I would look foward to reading one paragraph news reports buried in the sports section of the newspaper to keep up to date with results. I often read about Roy Jones Jr and Bernard Hopkins without really knowing who they were (or seeing any highlights of them). Once I turned 18 and could get into a pub I began to watch fights again. Mike Tyson, Kostya Tszyu and Oscar DLH being regular PPV bouts and my favourite fighters.
Maintained the pub visits Sunday morning Melbourne time to enjoy the fights plus the launch of the internet and the rest is history! I try to watch as many fights online as possible now because in Australia there is a very limited number of PPVs still. For example, the Cotto fight this Sunday, is NOT being shown in my state!!!
On a brighter side, one of the mainstream TV stations is proposing to host a few boxing shows to see if they can rejuvenate the interest in the sport - they will be putting these shows live on an alternative digital channel (not the main one) , but it is a massive start! They plan to show guys like Billy Dib and Sakio Bika if all reports are correct.
Thankyou BTBC for the opportunity to read and participate in this forum. I especially appreciate the access to some fights as well.

Well, when I say that I'm a snob when it comes to reggae and ska, it means that I ONLY listen to GOOD reggae and ska. Most 3rd and 4th wave ska bands are absolute GARBAGE, Sublime included, sorry stivan. I listen to TONS of reggae. I also appreciate old country music, with a cutoff date of around 1980, and a large focus on Delta Blues (skip james, etc.)

I do not listen to Bob Marley, mostly because his music has been adopted by a bunch of moronic pothead fratboys who have perverted his lyrics into anthems about getting high. I also do not smoke pot (say whaaaat? Personal challenge to myself, I make up for it by drinking). I think you'll find that Bob Marley is in fact NOT the father of reggae, since Reggae actually evolved from Ska, mid-1960s. Alton Ellis is a precursor to Marley from Rocksteady to Reggae. Although Marley's Wailers existed throughout almost all transition eras of Reggae. A good book to read is: www.amazon.com/Boss-Sounds-Classic-Skinhead-Reggae/dp/1898927200/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1244756394&sr=8-1although apparently they're pretty expensive. I read a copy while squatting at a friends house. If you really want to get into it, any Trojan box set is worth a purchase and are excellent compilations. 70+ tracks for 20 bucks (DAAAAMN GINA) is a bargain in my book. The Trojan Reggae Sisters has currently been living in my car for a few months. An excellent current band from SoCal is the Aggrolites. Every album is worth picking up. Now enough on Reggae!

Isn't toe to toe the space for back and forth banter? I thought that this was just a place for new members to introduce themselves
