Guys, I need your help...I'm looking to hook up with an affordable, dependable web hosting service that can be used by a no-tech guy like me...
I've been looking all over the internet and reading user reviews, but they are all over the place. A company will get a stellar review and then, in their next review, they'll be classified as horrible...Who am I to believe?
If anybody has any knowledge of this, please share.

Hello Paul I can understand your frustration there are a lot to choose from and new sites every day. My suggestion would be to use one that offers a free service so you can try it and if you don't like it there is no loss. The technology you want behind your website is going to be your deciding factor. There are two main flavors: Windows based (using ASP as the programming language), and Linux based (using PHP as the programming language). PHP seems to be the most popular. You will have to do some reviewing and find out what's going to be the best for you These are my top two picks Award Space www.awardspace.com/50webs www.50webs.com/Here is some other stuff that may be helpful Kompozer kompozer.net/TiddlyWiki www.tiddlywiki.com/SiteBuilder webhosting.yahoo.com/ps/sb/index.phpHere's a tip I found This guy was discussing the issues he ran into I made the mistake to teach myself ASP, and then discovered that I cannot find any place where I can put up my ASP website for free and without ads. I eventually found one, hosted by a private person, but he closed down his service a year or two later. Free PHP-based websites, on the other hard is very easy to find. I can recommend awardspace.com. You get 200MB space for free. It is PHP based, and you get 1 MySql database for free. It does NOT include an email account. For simple and vanilla HTML websites, this is more than enough. No ads! If you are willing to pay US$4/month, you can upgrade to 60GB (yes, sixty gigabyte!) of space. Not a bad deal. And you get an email account or two. My recommendation: start with the Free version, and if your site grows out of bounds (an unlikely event with 200MB of space), upgrade to the next level Another good free web space provider is 50webs.com. Also no ads! If you have any more questions feel free to ask. I will be happy to help in any way can If anybody else has suggestions or more information please post it

Been using tripod for years with no hassles. Plenty of storage for an affordable price and I've run several web sites off one account. Purchased my domain name through them as well (fightsims.com) My only other use was bravepages, who I will never recommend. Those sh*t heels rubbed out my site after years of usage without warning, claiming I violated the terms 9though never telling me exactyl WHAT I did wrong). At the time my boxing sim was in full swing with tons of followers and it fu**ed my royally. Anyway, I still carry some discontent all these years later

I don't know if I want to go the free hosting route...I don't like the limitations and I don't like the hassle of having to change things over when/if the site gets big and needs more powerful servers and/or better quality attention...
IMO, a free message board is one thing, but free web hosting is not what I'm looking for...
Any recommendations on pay web hosting sites and the personalized attention that comes with a paid service?
