Aug 6 (Reuters) - Film writer and director John Hughes, whose credits include "The Breakfast Club" and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," has died of a heart attack at age 59, his spokesman said on Thursday.
Hughes died suddenly while taking a morning walk in New York City, according to a statement from his spokesman
If any Generation Xer claims to not have seen, and enjoyed, a John Hughes movie, they're a damn liar.
For me, as a teen growing up in Chicago in the 80's, John Hughes movies were the closest we ever got to a real voice in cinema.
Hughes was the first person I had ever seen who didn't portray teenagers as only sex-starved, drug-addled, cartoons...
I sorta outgrew his movies and haven't seen one in ages. But I like to think that I kept that concept of respect for teens in the back of my mind as I deal with kids now...
"The Breakfast Club" "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" "Sixteen Candles" "Pretty in Pink"
and tons more...
RIP John
