Floyd Mayweather Should Fight Shane Mosley, Says Arum
By Rick Reeno
BoxingScene.com sat down with Top Rank’s Bob Arum to discuss the possibility of a Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao encounter in 2010, and a variety of other related topics. The biggest hurdle to make that fight is the money. Mayweather, on more than one occasion, has gone on the record and made it clear that he won’t take a 50-50 deal to fight Pacquiao. He often cites his pay-per-view numbers as a big factor in demanding more money than Manny. In at least two interviews, Mayweather has taken the position of demanding at least a 60-40 split in his favor.
“60-40? That’s music to my ears. If I start hearing 60-40 – that just tells me to hang up [the phone] and move on to the next guy,” Arum said.
Arum would like to see Mayweather accept the challenge of Shane Mosley. He honestly believes Mayweather will never accept a fight with Mosley because of the risk factor involved. Mosley’s style, in Arum’s opinion, would give Mayweather hell.
“I think Cotto probably beats Mayweather. I think Manny probably beats Mayweather and I think Mosley beats Mayweather. I think Shane Mosley, because of his style, has the best chance to beat Mayweather,” Arum said.
“The fight that should be made is Mayweather and Shane Mosley. But Mayweather won’t take that fight. He won’t take any fight where there is any possibility where he might lose. Money is secondary with him. He will not take a chance like a normal fighter. He cares more about his legacy and being able to retire undefeated, so he could say that he never lost a fight.”
Another potential opponent for Mosley would be the winner of Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto, set for November 14. Regardless of the winner, Arum would like to see both of his fighters give some serious consideration to Mosley as a possible opponent in 2010.
“I think Pacquiao and Cotto should give Mosley some serious consideration. The reason I made the fight [Cotto-Pacquiao] is because Cotto beat Mosley and both of them [Cotto-Pacquiao] are my fighters,” Arum said.
I don't always agree with the Old Man but with this I agree 100% with him.

lol...Arum's picking his own fighters over Mayweather? Well, then, if it'll be that easy...why not make the deal and have the winner of Pacquiao-Cotto take the lesser share of the purse?
Whether Arum likes it or not, Mayweather has proven that he deserves the bigger share of the purse...If Arum doesn't take it, there's absolutely no way this can be turned on Mayweather...there will be no logical way anyone could accuse Mayweather of ducking Pacquiao or Cotto...
Mosley fights Berto....Mayweather fights the winner of Pacquiao and Cotto....Winners square off later in the year...that's the only logical way to go...

Mayweather Will Not Wait For Pacquiao-Cotto Winner
By Mark Vester
On September 19, Floyd Mayweather Jr. returned to the ring after a near two year layoff to dominate Juan Manuel Marquez. He doesn't know who his next opponent will be but he told the Associated Press that he will not sit and wait on the Manny Pacquiao-Miguel Cotto winner, which takes place on November 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mayweather plans to move forward with his comeback, whether that includes the Pacquiao-Cotto winner or another opponent. Shane Mosley has been calling Mayweather out but he is not in the running. Mayweather told the AP, among other outlets, that he is not interested in fighting Mosley.
Mayweather plans to return to the ring early next year. Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank has already said that he plans to negotiate with Mayweather's team next month, provided Pacquiao wins. There is a tentative date of March 13, 2010 for Pacquiao's next fight.
"I sit back and think sometimes, God doesn't want me to lose," Mayweather said. "I believe that in my heart. Every morning I thank God for what I have, because God doesn't make mistakes." Ok Let's get this right. He won't fight Cotto vs Pacquiao winner and he will not fight Shane Mosley. SO WHO does he want to fight Ricky Hatton again??? Pacquiao Destroyed him not much let of him after that brutal KO. He'll make Timothy Bradley come up to 147 or something or Ivan Calderon. This is what irritates me. He claims he is the best and he is a great fighter. The Cotto vs Pacquiao winner is the biggest fight that can be made with Mayweather in the sport of boxing. The next biggest fight would be with Shane Mosley and these are guys that can cement his legacy as one of the greatest boxers of all time. By beating a great fighter in his weight class.
In a way we are getting a Welter Weight Tournament.
Cotto vs Pacquiao Mosley vs Berto
Mayweather has to fight one of the two winners of those fights. He can't keep fooling people by beating smaller guys and fighters who are just not on the same level as him.

The options are very slim now for floyd. no ODLH or ricky, its either Pac, Cotto, Shane. Those are the biggest names right now. I hope for Shane or Cotto now that would be interesting

He has to fight one of the 3 girls or just retire. If he is not willing to fight true challenges then don't fight no more. You proved that you will never fight anyone who stands a chance of beating you. Undefeated you happy retire! He is afraid of losing he won't give anyone the chance to beat him. That's why he wants no part of Mosley he saw what he did to Margarito. What happen to his hit list???
Pacquiao won't take 40% but you can bet your ass that Cotto will take the 40% he rather take the lower cut and beat Mayweather instead of not fighting him at all.

From the very beginning there was never a doubt that Mayweather wanted Pacquiao and that he was coming back precisely to beat Pacquiao...
After Pacqiuao knocks Cotto out, we'll see exactly how eager he is to fight Mayweather...and Arum will NEVER sign Cotto to fight Mayweather. He's never tried before, why should he do so now? Maybe he'll do it if he sees that Cotto is done and can't be exploited any more...
Don't believe the hype, guys...
Arum makes all these accusations against Mayweather, but he has never seriously pursued a bout with Mayweather for any of his fighters...As the draw and as the, then, lineal champ, it's up to the lesser fighters to make the moves and make the concessions for the fight...It's not the top dog's obligation to make sure that all those beneath him are happy...For instance, it's not Cotto's obligation that Jesus Soto-Karass is a happy contender who will get a title shot at him one day...
Arum can talk all he wants and the haters can hate all they want, but the fact of the matter is that Arum has never, at any point, seriously pursued fights against Mayweather...Never...That's not ducking, that's not dealing business with someone who refuse to do fair business with you...And all that "He's afraid to lose...he won't fight anyone with a chance to beat him..." that's 100% from Arum's mouth.

Seriously, I don't want Mayweather/Berto unless Berto beats Mosley in january...I just don't want to hear these people say, "Why Berto? Mayweather just fights guys he thinks he can beat...blah, blah, blah..." I'm sick of the double standard and the Bob Arum talking points.

Arum's a blowhard that says stupid things on a regular basis.
There's no way you can make a case for Berto being a deserving challenger to Mayweather unless he beats Mosley, Cotto, or Pacquiao.

This reminds me of Mosley's people suggesting that Paul Williams should fight at Middleweight...
