Is this the beginning of the end for Juan Manuel Lopez? Did Mtagwa expose the right path to victory against him: hang tough, apply pressure, force JuanMa backwords and he'll fade...?

Is this the beginning of the end for Juan Manuel Lopez? Did Mtagwa expose the right path to victory against him: hang tough, apply pressure, force JuanMa backwords and he'll fade...? He might have, But what I think, and it should be no excuse, its that JuanMa took him lightly, and just wasn't motivated to really train, or it can just be the side-effects of fighting junk fighters..

Easier said than done.
You have to have three things to implement the Mtagwa formula:
1) One hell of a chin 2) An unbelievable amount of determination in the face of adversary. 3) Great stamina
Not too many fighters have the above three traits so I think Juanma is safe for the time being.

or it can just be the side-effects of fighting junk fighters.. "The Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Syndrome." A young fighter not properly tested will begin to go backwards in his development... Lopez's post-fight interview was telling...He said that he only wanted to fight big fights from now on...But, at the same time, if he fought like that against Mtagwa, imagine the trouble he'd be in against Caballero or any of the other tough guys at 122-126...

Everyone brings an interesting point to the table on this issue, we've all seen this young champ box with a tight defense and his chin tucked in, working inside with a barrage of combination's to the body and head, with the accompanied bobbing and side to side weave and with a number of punches per round that had led me to beleive that this kid was dangerous. But not being tested early and enough, brings along the overconfidence that matches his arrogance, and the young buck becomes a danger to himself.
I thinks it's sad that Juanma has shown that he does have what it takes to be a fairly good champ, yet resorts to his punching power and has forgotten the basic rules of the game of boxing. On the other hand, Mtagwa has shown all young boxing prospects the importance and what good preparation and focus can achieve, and there is no doubt about his strong chin and his ability to take constant punishment and still keep coming, he made the fight worth watching.
Young Juanma has only one option, that the embarrassment of reviewing this fight several times humbles him back to reality and makes him go back to the basics. I don't think Celestino can withstand the same assault as Mtagwa, but he's got the experience and he cannot be fought going backwards. He can be beat, he's been knocked out before, but the key is a peek-a boo Mike Tyson style that cuts the ring and keeps constants pressure with body blows for the first 6 rounds, if not, Juanma may as well mail him the belt now by UPS.

What Happen here is Juama was looking for the Knock Out the whole time since round 1. He wasn't respecting Mtagwa over looking this guy because of his record. And just fought reckless and like an amateur . When he stays focused he is a problem. But when he throws everything he trained for in the gym and throws it out the window then he is very beatable. This was not The Juama we all watched become a young star. He was trying to much to impress the New York Crowd at MSG!
He promised the fans a KO. And wanted to deliver. I really hope that he comes back better then this performance. He is lucky not to have been knocked out! And to walk a way with the win. Because at the end of the 11th he was doing good had the round won until he got caught at the end . He did not throw a jab or box he was slugging it out.
I don't think that this is the blue print to beat Juama. He faded because he punched himself out going for the Knock Out! He fought Mtagwa's fight not his fight. He didn't use his height and reach. Or his jab.

Everyone has tough nights.JML may have taken Mtagwa lightly but I don't see many people being able to take what Lopez was landing on Mtagwa.I have only seen highlights and bits of the fight but it looks like Roger went through hell to catch up with Lopez late.
Speaking of that, does anyone know where I can watch the fight?Youtube pulled all of the clips while I was at work.

My point is that all of Juanma's opponents now know that they don't have to fall down when they get hit...Lopez is human and can be hurt...That's usually the beginning of the end of a power puncher's career...we'll see what happens...
Remember, Mtagwa was not some beast...He'd been knocked out twice before, against Orlando Salido and Valdemir Pereira...neither killer punchers...
