I see it on here and in other places, but a lot of UK fight fans simply don't like Carl Froch...Why is that?
He seems like an alright guy and he sure can't be accused of not wanting to fight the best...

3 reasons:
- Arrogance doesn't sell well in the UK. - His style isn't suited to a UK audience which prefers all-action to his slow-lumbering, punch-picking style. - He rarely backs up his mouth with his performances.
The bottom line is we don't think he's anywhere near as good as he keeps telling us he is.

He's no Benn, no Eubank and no Calzaghe. Don't care what he says he is not in that category yet. Against Dirrell, he needed to throw more punches for christ sake. Both of them were like children in the playground forced to be put in the same ring together. I'm questioning Grandpa Lawson's tactics, Dirrell didn't throw enough he was way to cautious. That's why he lost.
Another reason everyone's not keen on Froch... he's got a fitter bird than most of us ;D

i dont hate him, but i have found him to be more and more unlikeable over time, although he is quite good as a commentator on itv4 every now and then.
theres something about his macho style that annoys me more and more.

the attitude towards arrogance and success in the uk compared to america is definately different.
if froch was a clown like eubank or naz, he would be much more popular. there are examples in all uk sports of arrogant stars becoming hate figures.
i often think people in the uk want a sportsman who tried hard, gave blood, sweat and tears, and then lost with dignity.
bruno will always be more popular than lewis.

Froch has been in two Fight of the Year candidates and has given honest efforts in all of his fights...His trio of wins against Pascal, Taylor and Dirrell is as impressive as anything on the resumes of any recent 168 pounders...
He could've easily sat back and fished the dregs of the division for years, fighting bum after bum in Nottingham, but you have to give him credit for actively seeking the best available career-defining fights...
Could the dislike stem from when he was calling Calzaghe out? IMO, he's certainly earned the right to talk big now...but you guys are certainly privvy to more Froch interviews than I am, so maybe to know him is to hate him... lol

the calzaghe thing maybe part of it, but i dont think its a major factor. people dont love calzaghe like they do hatton, i think its more the general attitude of froch rather than his targets.
you are right, there are reasons to like him, but still people are struggling to warm up to him.

i dont hate him, he's a good commentator .... he has been hard on amir khan and alot of khans fans dont like him because he said khan cant take a punch and he wouldnt be able to make a comeback after prescott. then he slagged calzaghe off obsessively... calzaghe said he didnt like froch and kessler would beat him .... and said he wouldnt want to give him the payday by offering him a fight.

If this is the case, especially the first and third points, why are so many of the top-ranking English fighters such toolboxes anymore? Tyson Fury, Carl Froch, David Haye. Two of the three have gotten gift decisions in the past month or so, one of the three has backed out of more bouts than he's been involved in in the last year. Yet all you hear is yap--they can't even win (in the cases of Froch and Fury, "win") with dignity. And I got through that whole mini rant without mentioning Joe Calzaghe. Did he make a new mold for how these guys think they're supposed to comport themselves?

If you were looking to plan a career and generate a following you could choose to adopt the Audley Harrison blueprint or the Ricky Hatton one. These guys seem to think Audley Harrison is the way to go. I happen to disagree.

Froch has been in two Fight of the Year candidates and has given honest efforts in all of his fights...His trio of wins against Pascal, Taylor and Dirrell is as impressive as anything on the resumes of any recent 168 pounders... But he hasn't given honest efforts in all his fights. We've had to watch this idiot for years under-performing against inferior opposition only for him to come out and declare himself "The most talented sportsperson in Britain". Who was that supposed to impress? And his calling out of Calzaghe was only half-hearted. I've seen him talk the talk in post fight interviews when his adrenaline was pumping, and then I've seen him handed the phone during interviews in camp when Calzaghe was on the end to tamely ask "Errr...can we have a fight?" JC: "I don't know if there'll be enough interest in it. Get the money together and we can have a fight no problem." CF: "Errm...ok mate. Thanks." Like I've said before, it looks weak to call a guy out for a fight that you know isn't going to take place. But that's a side issue really. The bottom line is he's arrogant but doesn't back it up. Even the 3 fights you've mentioned should have been won much more impressively then they were. Sure, there were thrills and spills along the way, but they weren't the world class performances of the self-styled greatest sportsman in the land.

if you look around the net you'll find loads of british boxing fans who dont like tyson fury for his hype.
david haye has backed up his ego with some good wins over the years, but also he has an entertaining personality unlike froch.
calzaghes ego went huge in the last part of his career, and you will find plenty of uk fans who started to get pissed off at his interviews. by that stage the uk public had been told by the media that calzaghe was the best ever so most just went along with it.
